🌿🐟 Did you know? The Great Bear Rainforest is home to the five major Pacific salmon species—Chinook, Coho, Pink, Chum, and Sockeye.

These fish not only sustain local wildlife like eagles, bears, and wolves but also enrich the forest itself. As animals feast on the salmon, the remnants become natural fertilizers, feeding the lush flora.

Beyond their ecological role, salmon are integral to the Indigenous communities here, woven into the fabric of First Nations’ culture and lore, reflecting a profound connection to the land and waters of British Columbia. 🌲🐻🦅

On this Remembrance Day, we honour the storied past of the Pacific Yellowfin and every soldier who served.

Constructed in 1943, the Yellowfin began her journey as a U.S. military vessel, vigilantly serving during a time of global uncertainty. Her missions, cloaked in secrecy, spanned from the icy waters of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands to the vibrant coasts of North America, safeguarding the freedoms we cherish today.

After her military service, the Yellowfin embraced a new role, conducting government research before becoming a cherished vessel for family adventures, continuing to make waves with every voyage.

Today, as we navigate the same waters, we pay homage to those who fought for peace. Lest we forget.

"Just a magical experience from day one. We got so lucky with sightings of spirit bears, whales, grizzlies, and a wolf- just incredible to see and spend time with.

The captain, naturalist and entire crew were beyond compare-all so kind, friendly and interesting. We learned a ton and loved laughing at Colin's stories.

Kellie's food was incredible- so creative and tasty. We cannot say enough about the crew and how welcomed we felt. We'll treasure these memories (and pictures and videos) always!

Governed by the @CoastalFirstNations, including the Wuikinuxv, Heiltsuk, Kitasoo Xai’xais, Nuxalk, Gitga’at, Gitxaala, Metlakatla, Old Massett, Skidegate, and the Council of the Haida Nation, this region is one of the last vast coastal temperate rainforests on the planet.

Its unique ecosystems, where land, sea, and freshwater converge, foster the growth of ancient forests nourished by nutrient-rich salmon, support rare white Spirit Bears, and offer sanctuary to Pacific coastal wolves adapted to marine hunting. 🐻🐺
